Girokaster

We've really enjoyed exploring this city known for its Ottoman architecture,  fortress and rebellious spirit.  The view from our guesthouse window in the old town:

And around town...

Today we walked out of town to a part of an old aqueduct, where we met an alpinist and companion working to clear it of vegetation for $9/day.  OSHA would not approve.

Then we ended up eating lunch where the godlike statue of Enver Hoxha, former Communist leader born here, stood.  We learned this from our restaurant owner tonight.

We're well fed, have clean clothes, and are ready to head out for Ohrid and Macedonia via Permet and Korce. It'll probably be 5 or 6 days of riding, one big mountain pass and a bunch more climbing.
